Should you book the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong for your next business stay?
If you’re visiting a city for a quick business trip, you might not need all the extra space a suite affords, but want a great night’s sleep, convenient location and everything you need at your fingertips. We see if Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong ticks all of those boxes…
First things first – the bed. It’s a real deal breaker for us when travelling and thankfully, we rather liked the bed at the Mandarin Oriental. It’s cosy and comfy, equipped with soft sheets and extra European pillows. Good night’s sleep? Check. The bed is positioned between the bathroom and desk area in the room, both of which can be curtained off for privacy and for keeping out the early morning sunlight.
The marble-clad bathroom is quite spacious with a full bath and separate shower, a single basin usable from both sides in a rather unique design along with a rotating mirror panel with built-in TV. All the usual toiletries are provided including razor, toothbrush and even a mini deodorant and lint roller. Fragranced amenities are by Bottega Veneta and are quite strongly perfumed – thankfully the scent is very unisex and one we quite liked.
Slippers and not one, but two robe options are provided (waffle and satin) – a touch we particularly liked, and if you place your shoes in the dedicated basket in the closet, they’ll clean and polish them for you at no cost. It’s definitely a hotel that has the business traveller’s needs well considered.
If you’re a keen people (or boat) watcher, binoculars are provided for examining the Kowloon harbour view and there’s a Bose sound dock to connect to also.
Being an older property, there are no bedside USB ports but the desk contains two international power points and two USB charging ports. The desk also contains most stationery items you will need including post-its, a stapler and scissors.
There’s a well-equipped gym in-house, but we imagine you’ll be getting plenty of steps in walking around the central city which is right at the hotel’s doorstep. The location really is a big plus – the hotel is built right above central station so you’ll be able to access all areas of Hong Kong quickly and with no hassles.
If you don’t feel like venturing out in search of food at the end of a long day, head to the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, Man Wah. Boasting fabulous views from its perch at the top of the hotel, you’ll find all the Cantonese classics on offer here. Don’t miss the pan-fried bean curd sheet roll with matsutake and barbequed Iberian pork loin.
