The St. Regis – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

A recent arrival on the Kuala Lumpur scene, The St. Regis has done a fantastic job of bringing a luxurious slice of the big apple to Malaysia’s capital. An elegant palette of greys, lilac and cream supported by endless yards of marble welcomes you to KL in true St. Regis style. High ceilings and spacious public areas lead to rooms and suites of equally epic proportions – our St. Regis Suite clocked in at a whopping 139m2. You can also add an adjoining Deluxe Room to make it a two bedroom suite.

What makes up 139m2 of suite you might wonder? Well, one thing this suite has that I bet yours doesn’t is it’s own private Spa treatment room. Why head to the spa with the common folk when you can be pampered without leaving your room? (That being said, St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s Iridium Spa is rather lovely and I recommend you do head there to experience its extended treatments in all their glory.)

A spacious dressing room is always a feature in St. Regis Suites, as is a King size St. Regis bed and two large televisions. The impressive bathroom is decked out in lust-worthy grey marble and boasts a wet room with shower, bath, mirrored television and retractable blinds so you can bathe with a view should you wish. Naturally, it has a double vanity and Remedé toiletries, but the addition of a Japanese-style robo-toilet is interesting, a plus for those who just can’t bear to leave their bidet butler at home.

Speaking of butlers, you’ll experience the quintessential St. Regis Butler Service here, including two items of clothing pressed per person per day – a godsend.

The suite also features a very large living space, with lounge area, dining, a great desk set up and a huge minibar set into a luxury trunk – oh, and there’s a guest toilet in the entrance foyer too.

If you for some reason want to venture outside of your gorgeous suite, there are plenty of places in-house where you can dine and imbibe in style. I checked out the poolside Crystal, where the local Asian delicacies being served up were superb, and the hotels’ all day dining restaurant, The Brasserie. Breakfast at The Brasserie is excellent, with plenty to keep diners happy whether your preference is sweet or savory. Being on the savory side myself, I particularly enjoyed the smoked beef and duck cold cuts and salads and the delicious Asian noodles, but I only scratched the surface of the vast offering.

Come nightfall, The Brasserie transforms into an impressively elegant bistro. Every dish we ordered passed the tastebud test with flying colors, but their pasta in particular was ‘wow’ inducing. We tried the linguini with truffle and a version with sliced asparagus, both absolutely stunning.

Beverages at both The Brasserie and the Astor Bar are impressive, with some great wines and cocktails on offer. In typical St. Regis style, you’ll be able to try both the house and local Bloody Mary interpretations, but my favourite was the candy floss cocktail – impressive to watch and to drink!

Hardcore foodies will also be impressed by the hotel’s other dining offerings – Taka by Sushi Saito from no.26 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and holder of three Michelin stars, Tokyo’s Sushi Saito, or edo-style tempura at Ginza Tenkuni.

One day and two nights at this superb property just wasn’t enough – there’s so much about it to just relax and enjoy. At 1650 MYR per night, this enormous suite is a veritable bargain. Next time, I’ll just have to stay longer…
